Subject: Sarasota County’s Acquisition of Gulf Gate Golf Course

Dear Commissioner,
I am a resident of Gulf Gate, and I strongly urge you to support the county’s acquisition of the Gulf Gate Golf Course as a stormwater management facility and public green space. Opportunities exist for a nature park with ease of access for observation and the reduction or elimination of existing flooding for adjacent public streets.

The conversion of this former golf course could significantly reduce nitrogen and phosphorus runoff into Little Sarasota Bay. Additionally, protecting this area as public space aligns with FEMA’s floodplain management objectives by not developing on flood prone lands. The Gulf Gate Golf Course is approximately 46% floodplain.

Please act in the best interest of the community and future generations by securing this property for environmental and recreational use.

Thank you for your leadership and consideration.
