Sarasota County Wants Your Input!

Sarasota County Logo

Sarasota County is creating a Unified Development Code (UDC) that updates and brings together the land development and zoning regulations, which control the development of all properties in unincorporated Sarasota County. The new code will be more user-friendly and allow readers to more easily find the rules that apply to a property.

This effort may also include:

  • Incorporation of existing standalone ordinances that regulate development.
  • Placement of regulatory provisions that may be more appropriately maintained as administrative technical documents.
  • Development of implementing regulations for regulatory components of the Comprehensive Plan.

Sarasota County will be working with a consultant to create the UDC. The project started in March 2017 and will last approximately 18 months. County staff will be reviewing existing documents that pertain to current land development and zoning regulations, with the goal of consolidating language and identifying inconsistencies or potentially obsolete provisions.

Sarasota County is committed to keeping the public involved and up-to-date throughout the process. The proposed UDC will be presented to various groups, advisory committees and ultimately the Sarasota County Commission for consideration.

During the process, the county would like to know what items or issues you feel should be addressed.

You may attend any or all of the following public meetings to learn more and provide your comments:

  • April 10, 2017: Board of Zoning Appeals, 6:00 p.m. or as soon thereafter as possible at 1660 Ringling Blvd., Commission Chamber, Sarasota, Florida
  • April 19, 2017: Development Service Advisory Committee, 2:30 p.m. at 1001 Sarasota Center Blvd., Conference Room 2, Sarasota, Florida

Please visit the UDC Project web page at www.scgov.net keyword “UDC Project” to provide your comments on what items you feel should be addressed and to learn more about this effort and to follow its progress.

You may provide your comments by submitting them directly to the Planning and Development Services Department at planner@scgov.net.
Input received will be addressed by the consultant as the UDC Project moves forward.
