A GULF GATE WOODS-GULF GATE TOUR,
YOUR COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION’S DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
PROGRAM
With approximately 1,500 homes within the boundary of the Community
Association some of us may be in the area when a hurricane, tornado
or other disaster occurs. At the moment when radio and TV announce
that people should leave their communities, some of us don’t get the
word or choose to stay for a myriad of reasons. But for those of us
who do not leave, how can we respond? What preparations have you
made to survive?
During
2007 the GGCA established a Disaster Preparedness Committee to
consist of home owners, renters, visitors and others who are willing
to be involved in preparedness activities. One of the activities is
the development of the Gulf Gate Woods-Gulf Gate Disaster
Preparedness Plan. It highlights some of the actions that you and
your neighbors need to consider in order to be self-reliant when a
disastrous event occurs. It also provides information concerning
actions that can be taken by you and your neighbors to alleviate
conditions when there may be disruption in public services and
damage to residences. The plan also focuses on immediate post event
operations as part of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
CERT
consists of people in the community who have been certified by
Sarasota County Emergency Services in the basic skills necessary to
assist neighbors immediately following a disaster and before the
County’s emergency response team is able to respond.
We are
a large community, and have a need to grow the Disaster Preparedness
Committee and CERT. If you are willing to assist this effort or
would like more information concerning how we are equipping
ourselves to have neighbors help neighbors, please contact us by
clicking the link above.
We look forward
to hearing from you.
